Cavallo Pastern Wraps for Additional Pastern Protection
Cavallo Pastern Wraps enhance comfort and protection for your horse’s pasterns and heel bulbs, ideal for full-time hoof boot wear or sensitive skin. Essential for conditions like laminitis, founder, and navicular disease where your horse will be wearing the boots full-time. Cavallo Pastern Wraps reduce friction, ensuring a smooth transition to booted life during break-in and extended wear.

When to use Cavallo Pastern Wraps?
Cavallo Pastern Wraps are ideal when your horse needs extra protection, comfort, or cushioning around the pastern and heel bulbs. Here are the key times and situations to use them!
Riding and High-Intensity Work for horses engaged in high-intensity activities, Pastern Wraps add protection against rubbing. The thin neoprene reduces friction and shields sensitive areas (such as your horse’s heel bulbs and pastern) during repeated movements or exposure to rough terrain.
Full-Time Boot Wear
Horses that need to wear Hoof Boots full-time should always use Pastern Protection. These are horses managing chronic conditions like laminitis, founder, navicular, or thin soles. Pastern protection reduces friction on sensitive areas, ensuring comfort and minimizing the risk of irritation during constant boot wear. Pastern Wraps offers a great, easy-to-use solution. They can also be usedto minimize dirt or debris from getting inside the boots.
Sensitive or Thin-Skinned Horses
Horses with sensitive or thin skin are more prone to discomfort. This is especially true when first transitioning to Hoof Boots, or when wearing boots for prolonged amounts of time. Cavallo Pastern Wraps offer a soft, cushioned barrier between the Hoof Boot and your horse’s skin, which can prevent irritation. While Cavallo Hoof Boots already provide excellent protection on their own with a gentle, padded leather back designed to shield your horse’s hooves, Pastern Wraps add that additional layer of extra comfort.
Break-In Period for New Boots
Even when well-fitted, horses may go through an adjustment period while getting used to wearing Hoof Boots. During this break-in period, Pastern Wraps add extra protection and comfort, allowing your horse to gradually adapt to the new boots. This helps prevent initial discomfort or potential chafing while your horse’s skin and hooves adjust to the secure fit.

How to Properly Size and Fit Cavallo Pastern Wraps
To ensure Cavallo Pastern Wraps fit securely and comfortably, start by choosing a size that matches your hoof boot size. For example, size Small fits boot sizes 0-1, Medium fits boot sizes 2-3 and Large fits sizes 4-6. For heavier-boned or feathered horses, we recommend moving up one size. If your horse is in a size 6 boot but the Large Pastern Wraps are too tight, move up to the BFB Pastern Wraps.
Position approximately 1/4 inch of the wrap under the heel’s weight-bearing points, which secures the wrap during movement. Wraps should fit snugly around the pastern with the Velcro fastened, allowing natural movement while providing full coverage without restriction.
Check Cavallo Pastern Wraps for comfort after fitting. Shifting, bunching, or gaps may mean the size needs adjusting. Checking regularly ensures a proper fit and maintains comfort, especially for horses wearing boots full-time. Pastern Wraps fit comfortably inside Cavallo Boots without significantly altering the boot’s fit. If your horse is between boot sizes, test the fit with and without wraps to determine the best size.
Cavallo Pastern Wraps work with all Cavallos except CLB “Cute Little Boots”. If you need pastern protection for your mini’s CLBs, we recommend purchasing a thick, wool, child-sized sock.

1
Place The Pastern Wrap on Your Horse’s Hoof
Position the wrap over your horse’s hoof, ensuring it covers the pastern and heel bulbs.

2
Fasten the Main Velcro
Firmly fasten the main Velcro closure to hold the wrap in place. Ensure it is snug but not too tight to allow natural movement.

3
Tug Wrap Partway Under the Heels
Check that approximately 1/4-1/2 inch of the wrap is sitting under the weight-bearing points of the heel. This ensures that the wrap will stay in place during your ride. If not, you can tug the fastened wrap down over the hoof

4
Fasten the Elastic and Put Your Boot on
Place the hoof back on the ground and fasten the Elastic by drawing it firmly upwards at a 45 degree angle, like a “sling” under the heel bulbs.
Place the hoof back on the ground and fasten the elastic Velcro closure. Once the wrap is securely on, you can put your horse’s boot overtop.

5
Close the Velcro and off You Go!
Fold down the small red Velcro closure, and close your boot as usual. Once the boot is fastened, secure, and you have done a final inspection of the closures, your horse is ready to go!
Cavallo Customer Service Expert Krystle Gives a Detailed Demo for Putting on Pastern Wraps:
Top Trainer and Eventer loves Cavallo Pastern Wraps for Extra Protection
“Hello, I am SOOO happy with my Pastern Wraps for Seamus’ BFB Boots! I used the Wraps today for the first time and they were incredible!! Seamus is so comfortable in his boots, and now I don’t have to worry about his bulbs or coronet band being rubbed.
He is feeling more secure in them – I can tell by the way he moves out now at the trot and canter. He is not as hesitant. The Pastern Wraps were the final tweaking we needed – kinda like the difference between wearing running shoes without socks and wearing them with socks.
Thanks again for helping Seamus be comfortable and enjoy his trail rides again. I have recommended the boots to a client of mine with draft X who was just diagnosed with a fractured ringbone and chip for a cushioning effect while it heals.”
Cheers and Stay safe ????

Perfect Fit with Cavallo Treks and Pastern Wraps!
“This is my Mustang, Moreno breaking in his new Cavallo Treks while mowing the yard! :-)
I just wanted to let you know that I ordered and received the Size 3 Slim Trek boots per your suggestion. Yesterday, I did the fit test on my gelding and they are a perfect fit! Popped right on and have no twist from side to side. He has room in the back of the boot which allows the space to add extra protection with Cavallo pastern wraps. The wraps will be wonderful during my Mounted Orienteering competitions, where I often ride through streams, clearcut areas and heavy brush during a ride.
Thank you so much for the excellent and prompt customer care that you have provided to me over the last couple of weeks. I’m a Cavallo customer as long as I own a horse!”
