Firstly, start with length, and place the zero end of the ruler at the very tip of the toe. Measure straight up the center of your horse’s hoof to the buttress line. But do not include the heel bulbs, as this will make your measurement too long. This is your horse’s length.

Secondly, measure the width across the widest point of the hoof. Keep the ruler level and snug against both sides of the object. Don’t angle it, and don’t guess! Cavallo boots are sized by length, but width helps you choose between Regular and Slim soles. If your horse’s width is ¼ inch (6mm) less than the length, go with a Slim sole.
