Adventurous, All-Terrain Donkey Puts LEB to the TEST!

“Jitterbug has been wearing her new boots on urban runs and rocky trails. For fitting, we have made ZERO modifications to the LEB. Jitterbug is wearing the boots with thick wool hiking socks, as recommended by donkey farrier Megan Hensley.

This weekend we took her to a section of the Black Canyon Trail north of Phoenix. In a short, 4-mile hike, there are diverse changes in footing, from loose rock, solid rock, powdery volcanic dirt, sand, and we even crossed water. Through it all, we had zero twisting and no lost boots. When we returned to the trailer and removed the boots, there were no rubs or chafing, just the tiniest bit of sand in the socks.

Previously, Jitterbug had been wearing Cavallo CLB Boots for mini horses. For comparison, we had to add a lot of padding and modify the interior of the CLB significantly to get them to fit correctly. The fact that we had a successful hike with no modifications or lost LEB boots is amazing.

We train on a lot of decomposed granite trails, which really files down those hooves, and they can easily become too short and tender. Our family currently owns 5 donkeys. All of them, with the exception of the newest guy that we’ve only had for 2 weeks, wear cavallo boots. We are looking forward to switching them over to the new LEB for a better fit!”
