For horses
consteed smart sneaker
Peer-reviewed, and built on the Trek.
Sensors in the sole of a Cavallo Trek measure hoof forces on every stride and send them to your phone or tablet. Objective gait analysis you can take to the horse, instead of bringing the horse to a lab.
- Published in the Veterinary Journal Keller et al., 2026. It detected limb-loading differences and tracked them as lameness improved.
- Seven Sensors in Each Boot Inspection is required after 30,000 steps so the measurements stay accurate.
- With or Without Horseshoes Fits barefoot and shod horses. When shod, measure from the branch ends of the shoe.

How It Works
Meet the consteed smart sneaker
consteed is a hoof boot that measures how your horse moves. Sensors built into the sole capture ground reaction forces during natural movement and send them to your phone or tablet as the horse walks and trots. It is like having a mobile gait lab in your pocket.
- Seven sensors in each boot measure the load on that hoof as it bears weight.
- Wireless, in real time. The electronic unit on the boot processes each stride and transmits it straight to your phone or tablet, for immediate analysis and monitoring.
- On your phone or tablet. The consteed app receives the recording as it happens and keeps a record for every horse.
What It Measures
- Peak vertical pressure
- Impulse (force over time)
- Stance and stride timing
- Swing duration
- Load symmetry between limbs
Who They’re For
One system. Four ways to use the data.
-
Veterinarians & Clinics
Faster, objective diagnosis. Lameness data from many strides, wherever the horse is. A billable service that sets your practice apart.
-
Farriers
Before and after every trim. Show clients a measurable result. Early warning of hoof-related loading issues.
-
Equine Therapists
Measure rehabilitation progress session by session. Show clients the change with visual reports.
-
Riders & Horse Owners
Catch gait issues early, so treatment decisions come in time. Track long-term hoof health over months, not moments.
Built on the Cavallo Trek · The Science
Laboratory-quality gait data, outside the laboratory.
consteed is built on the Cavallo Trek, adapted exclusively for consteed, so the horse gets the Trek’s comfort and fit while the sensors stay protected. A 2026 peer-reviewed study in The Veterinary Journal showed that consteed can measure limb loading accurately during movement, and that forces became more symmetrical as lameness improved.
“The instrumented hoof boot detected differences in limb loading and showed a more symmetrical distribution of forces between limbs after improvement of lameness.”
- 7Sensors in each boot.
- 4 limbsMeasured together on one scale.
- Many stridesMore representative than one step on a force plate.

Sizing
Measure each hoof. Sizes 2 to 5.
consteed has its own four sizes and its own measuring template. Measure each hoof individually, then choose a front size and a hind size for every system.
Between two sizes, choose the larger. Measuring just before a trim, choose the smaller. Many horses need a larger size in front than behind, and the hoof socks in the box take up small differences.
- Lift the hoof by hand and place the template with its orange marks against the heels. If shod, position it at the branch ends of the shoe instead.
- Don’t put the template on the ground or let the horse step on it.
- Fold the sheet over the toe edge and read the size off the scale.
| Size | Hoof length | Hoof width |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 12.5–13.5 cm (4.9–5.3 in) | 12.3–12.9 cm (4.8–5.1 in) |
| 3 | 13.6–14.4 cm (5.4–5.7 in) | 13.0–13.7 cm (5.1–5.4 in) |
| 4 | 14.5–15.2 cm (5.7–6.0 in) | 13.8–14.6 cm (5.4–5.7 in) |
| 5 | 15.3–16.0 cm (6.0–6.3 in) | 14.7–15.3 cm (5.8–6.0 in) |

Good to Know
Before you order.
The questions we hear most. Anything else, the consteed team answers directly.
Can consteed be used with horseshoes?
Yes. consteed works with or without horseshoes. For a shod horse, place the measuring template at the branch ends of the shoe rather than the heels.
Can consteed be worn as a normal hoof boot?
No. It is a measuring instrument, not hoof protection, and it is not for everyday wear. Put the boots on for the measurement and take them off when you are done.
Do I need the app?
Yes. Using consteed requires the consteed app, available for iOS 17 and above and Android 15 and above, in English and German. It is free, with the basic features; a paid tier is planned and is not available yet. The phone or tablet has to be one the manufacturer still supports.
Can I mix sizes in one system?
Yes. Front and hind can be different sizes, in sizes 2 to 5.
When does a set need inspection?
After 30,000 steps, inspection is required so the measurements stay accurate. A single measurement should be at least 30 steps, which comes to about 400 to 800 measurements before inspection, because steps also count while the boots go on and between recordings. Wear the boots only for the measurement, then take them off. The cover plate in each boot is a wear part: replace it as it wears so the sensors underneath is not damaged and arrange inspection with the consteed team.
How is equine gait analysis with consteed different from a force plate?
A force plate is fixed in a lab floor and usually captures a step or two. consteed is worn on the hoof, so it records many consecutive strides wherever the horse is working.
How long does a charge last?
Up to 20 measurements per charge. The battery is a LiPo, 3.7 V / 300 mAh, and it charges from USB-A at 5 V.
Can I order from Canada?
Not yet. consteed ships to US addresses only for now. Send the consteed team a message and they will let you know when Canadian orders open.
