Why Trek is The Proven Foundation Behind Consteed
A Comfortable Horse Rewards Its Rider
For veterinarians, this means a powerful new tool for monitoring movement, supporting rehabilitation, and keeping horses comfortable during treatment.
For everyday riders and trainers, it means confident hoof protection on difficult terrain, combined with valuable insight into performance and well-being. Every barn, riding facility and equine veterinary clinic strives for the same goal: keeping horses comfortable, sound, and able to perform at their best.
When horses move freely without pain and with full confidence, they reward their riders with better stride, greater willingness, and stronger performance. Consteed brings together trusted hoof protection and modern technology to help make this possible, giving both horses and the people who care for them a significant advantage.

Where Trust Meets Innovation
The Consteed Smart Horse Sneaker is built on the Cavallo Trek Hoof Boot for a reason… Trek already provides one of the most trusted therapeutic and performance foundations in modern hoof care.
Known for its lightweight construction, durable upper, and flexible TPU upper, the Trek Hoof Boot protects the hoof while still allowing natural movement and circulation. By integrating Consteed’s smart monitoring technology into this proven platform, the Consteed Smart Horse Sneaker transforms a respected protective boot into an intelligent system that not only safeguards the hoof but also helps riders and veterinarians better understand the body mechanics of how a horse moves and loads its feet.

From Hoof Crack to Comeback! A Cavallo Case Study:

From Cracked to Confident!
Hoof cracks are a common concern for both horse owners and hoof care professionals. These vertical or horizontal fissures in the hoof wall can range from superficial surface lines to deeper structural splits that affect soundness.
Our case study for today is Mistie, a 16-year-old Welsh cross pony competing at Medium level dressage in Australia, who has always been barefoot. She trains five days per week and is trimmed every five weeks. After moving to a new agistment property with coarse sand, three of her four hooves began developing toe cracks. One front hoof showed a crack progressing up the center of the toe.
Symptoms:
Toe cracks often start subtly but can progress rapidly if left untreated. Common causes include:
- Hoof imbalance and conformational stress
- Improper trimming or shoeing
- Trauma and abscesses
- Environment
- Nutrition and hoof quality
For Mistie, she was starting to get toe cracks in three of her hooves, after the arena footing was topped up with coarse-grain sand. Mistie was training 5 days a week, and her owners were worried the cracks would progress further.

Our Approach:
Addressing the underlying cause is key to treating and healing hoof cracks. This should include regular, balanced trimming to reduce excessive length and improve support. Correct breakover reduces leverage on weakened hoof walls and can prevent cracks from worsening. Nutrition should not be overlooked – ensure adequate amino acids and balanced minerals.
For Mistie, the cause was abrasive arena footing. To protect her feet while ridden, Cavallo recommended Trek Hoof Boots with pastern wraps.
What The Trek Boots Brought to Mistie
- Reduced sand abrasion and hoof wear
- Protected the toe and enhanced breakover
- Supported Mistie’s hoof cracks while growing out
What The Pastern Wraps Offered Her:
- Prevented sand from entering the boots
- Added additional comfort and protection at the bulbs
Mistie’s Progress Report: “Dressage horses can benefit from boots, too!”
Mistie loves her Trek Hoof Boots and Pastern wraps and uses them for dressage training, trail riding, and other outings. The boots were the perfect solution for her hoof cracks – helping them to heal, and protecting her feet from abrasive terrain.
“I had never thought about using boots on our dressage horses, as I always thought they were more for trail riding. We moved agistment and found that with my daughter Emily’s pony Mistie, the sand was a bit more abrasive than what we were used to, and 3 out of her 4 hooves were showing signs of cracks forming in the toes.
The farrier was starting to talk about the need for shoes, but Mistie is 16 years old and has never been shod, so we didn’t really want to go down that path. We contacted Cavallo for advice and were recommended a full set of Trek boots with pastern wraps. Mistie trains in medium-level dressage, so we needed boots that would not affect her movement at all, but she moves and performs really well in her boots, with no change to her training at all. The pastern wraps are really good in the arena as they stop any sand that may get into the boots from rubbing.
I’m now thinking of transitioning my dressage horse to barefoot and using boots on him when needed too, the result has been that good!”

A Better Fit for Every Hoof – How Cavallo Boots Adapt to the Horse, Not the Other Way Around:
When it comes to hoof boots, not all brands approach fit the same way. Some hoof boot brands require specialized tools, adjustments, or even permanent modifications to achieve the correct fit for a horse. Trimming, stretching, heat-shaping, or altering components can sometimes be part of the process, which may add complexity, time and significant frustration to get boots ready for use.
Cavallo Hoof Boots take a very different approach. Designed with equine comfort and adaptability in mind, Cavallos are engineered to achieve a secure, customized fit without the need for tools or structural modifications.
How to Achieve the Famous Customized Cavallo Fit:
Achieving the custom Cavallo fit begins with proper sizing and a gradual break-in period. Once you’ve selected the correct size, introduce the boots slowly in short, controlled sessions. This allows the materials to respond naturally to your horse’s movement and hoof shape.
During the break-in process, the soft leather around the heel bulbs gently shapes and contours to your horse’s individual anatomy, while the internal foam cushioning compresses and moulds to the precise shape of each hoof. Rather than requiring tools or structural modifications, Cavallo boots adapt conveniently through wear. As they are used consistently and correctly, they conform more closely to your horse’s unique dimensions.
With this gradual introduction, the boots develop a secure, supportive, and truly customized fit, minimizing excess movement, reducing pressure points, and helping to prevent rubbing or discomfort while delivering the comfort and protection Cavallo is known for.
The result is a boot that feels tailored to your horse – not forced to fit through modification, but naturally shaped through thoughtful design and proper break-in. At Cavallo, we prefer that comfort, protection, and ease of use come together naturally to support every stride.
