Tales of a Globe-Trotting Character Horse
“I met your Cavallo CEO, Greg Giles, and promised him I’d send some photos of my Arabian stallion, Grimm, in his Cavallos. As I scrolled through my old phone to find my best photos, I remembered so many other stories that Grimm has had in his 23 years so, far besides travelling across Canada and to Central America!
“Grimm survived cancer – he had a spindle cell sarcoma on his eyelid, and surgery to remove the mass followed by three rounds of chemo. He then had his left eyelid rebuilt with plastic surgery. Treatment was painful and long, and he was so sweet and understanding through the whole process.
“When I first moved him to Central America, the pasture I leased in preparation for his arrival suddenly sold… We had to put him somewhere, so he lived in our backyard at our rental house while we were building our own house! He learned to eat bananas and mangos from the trees in the garden, steal the grain out of the chicken feeders, hide in the garage when it rained, he even walked INTO the house a few times! He would often creep up behind me to hang out in the breeze of the fan when I was working at my computer on the front porch. He has made more than a few appearances in the background on my Zoom calls for work!
“While building our house, we moved Grimm to our property before we lived there and built him a simple shelter. Well, he checked out the shelter but decided the house was more his style, and during construction, we would often find him IN the house instead of in his own barn, LOL! I made sure to keep a space in our new house outside my new office space, where he can continue to join my workday as he pleases. ????
“My little sister learned to ride on him, having never been on a horse before. Her first mount was a black Arabian stallion! And he took such good care of her; he’s such a gentle soul.
“There are many other stories but the important one is what a fantastic help the boots have been in transitioning his hooves to the new climate. We know that horse racing can be somewhat controversial, but we are so proud of these fabulous young ladies. An infusion of feminine energy might just serve to soften this traditionally male-dominated sport.
[From Racing SA]: Female jockeys won every race at the Morphettville Parks meeting in Southern Australia last week.
It was ladies’ day at Morphettville on Saturday, with female jockeys taking out each of the nine races. Well done, ladies!

SI Ligament Strain Managed with Cavallos
“I purchased four boots recently. My horse is in rehab for SI ligament strain and we must ride on hard surface, which unfortunately has a lot of gravel. This surface was really wearing down his hoofs to the point my farrier was talking about putting shoes on. To avoid this, I thought boots! Well, this Friesian cross has big hooves, not something other companies carry and his back ones are odd sized. I really appreciated assistance from Cavallo to get the correct size, he is a 6 regular in front and slim on back. I love the quality of these boots and he seems very comfortable walking and trotting in them.”

We Have Gaited Horses and the Stay On!
“We have gaited horses and they stay on!!!! If you have a horse with sensitive skin I highly recommend using the Pastern Wraps under your boots so you don’t have to worry about rub marks. Also it’s nice to add the inserts if you ride on hard ground, as they work great for shock absorption! if your horse has sensitive feet, do them a favour and order them some boots!
Send foot measurements to the employee that works the Facebook page and they guarantee the fit!!! The trek hold up through any type of riding if the fit is right and they’re fastened properly (if you’re unsure if they look ok, ask Cavallo).
I’ll keep recommending this product as I truly believe they’re the best, these boots have saves me THOUSANDS on what I would have spent on shoes. Nice to own your own rasp for minor hoof touch ups (ask your farrier for an old one) that way if your horse can’t get their foot into the boot you can touch up the small flare if need be.”
